Look Keo Blade Ceramic pedals

After my hip surgery I found it challenging to click in and out of my previous pedal system. So I decided to change to another pedal system that I thought would be a better solution.

I looked around and decided to go for the brand with the most history behind it, and that was the French brand LOOK. They were the first brand to manufacture to automatic clipless pedal back in 1984 and have been the industry leaders ever since.

I have chosen the top of the range Look Keo Blade Ceramic pedals, the motivational reason was the engagement between cleat and pedal, in addition you can change the carbon retention BLADE with ease. This gives you the option of 8Nm, 12nm, 16nm and 20nm.

I opted for the 8Nm so it was easy to click in and out. Their industry leading retention system gave me the confidence to stay clipped in while having the ease of clipping out. This is a great choice for those just starting out in cycling.

After my strength in the hip came back, likewise my power I decided to change to the 12Nm carbon retention BLADE, I wanted a more positive engagement and that extra security when delivering more power to the pedals.

For those who prefer a more positive engagement between cleat and pedals there are also the option 16Nm and 20Nm BLADES, but I think so much power I will not develop. :D

The installation of these retention BLADES are so simple and anyone with the right tools can perform this task.

Another advantage for me are the cleats, they are very easy to replace and not so complicated as my previous system, Theodore after two corrections of the cleat rotation I had already found my correct foot position.

And also there are different cleats with 0, 4.5 or 9 degree float, so you really have a great opportunity to find the right one for you. I use the cleats with 4.5 degree float.

How I noticed that I have to adjust the cleat rotation was also quite simple. I noticed while riding that my heel on the right foot always presses against the inside, i.e. to the left. So I have adjusted the cleat position minimally to the left, to be a bit more heel in or toe out.

After more than 15`000 kilometers I am more than confident with the LOOK pedal system and they are still as smooth as on the first day. :) At no moment I thought about switching back to my previous pedal system.
